Does “Bad Publicity or Good Publicity is still Publicity” applies for LadyIronChef?

Posted in Opinions by melchoi on 23 August, 2010

Learnt about this article. Read if before you read the rest of my jumbled up 2 cents.

A few questions are circling in my head:
1) Was the operations manager of that restaurant even sure that the guy was the real ladyironchef? i mean, any look alike can claim that he is? hmmm.. maybe that’s why the said ladyironchef didnt get his free meal cos the operations manager didnt know about the agreement? hmmm. possible.
2) were the said ladyironchef and his friends reminded about the 3.30pm brunch promo? it’s kind hard to tell from this vague article too..

CREDIBILITY

When that netizen mentioned that food bloggers should always pay for their meals, you gotta think deeper. Yes, that netizen makes sense, but doesn’t it also make sense if a food blogger gives neutral and honest opinions on the food sampled so as to maintain the credibility of his blog?

If a food blogger gives biased opinions to favour the eatery that gave him a free meal, won’t the readers find out eventually on their own, after trying it out, and avoid the blogger’s words ever again? Why will he wanna risk losing his credibility when he has worked so hard to reach where he is right now?

DOES HE HAVE A RIGHT TO BE ARROGANT?

I am a follower of ladyironchef’s blog and Twitter updates. Because of a couple of reasons. Yes, I do get the feeling sometimes that he is one kind of an arrogant person. But, if you’re really good at something and people recognize you for that, you earn yourself the right to brag and be arrogant to a certain extent. BUT, if he puts in the effort to reply Twitter questions from a nobody like me, how arrogant can he be? I actually think he’s quite ok! Nobody is perfect right? Cliche but true.

It’s really sad that ladyironchef’s site is suspended now due to this whole issue, cos this is the moment of his life where he gets the MOST publicity for his blog, and everyone who learns about this matter wants to find out all about his previous food adventures and recommendations or basically try and catch a glimpse of the person they wanna criticize about.

Just like how Ris Low (hahahahahahhaha) says it, good publicity or bad publicity is STILL publicity! people who want to share the news about this certain ladyironchef has to first give a basic introduction that he is a food blogger.. Voila! first form of publictiy. then the curious listener will attempt to check out his blog but sadly it’s down at the moment. if it was up, the curious listener would browse through and bingo! publicity achieved.

but since it’s bad publicity, nobody will ever want to invite him to their eatery anymore. that means his readers like ME will have less awesome news on really good places! dammit!

ANYBODY CAN CRITICIZE HIM, EVEN MY MOTHER

I dont understand why are all the food bloggers going against him when they havent really heard his story or got the facts right? Ladyironchef hasnt spoken yet, has he?

if that eatery is just trying to publicize itself by ruining other people’s reputation, that’s just mean. Everybody will try to get you down once you’re a little famous. zzzz

Why do you follow a food blogger’s recommendation? Even a secondary schools kid can explain that without much thought: cos Singapore is boring for people on a low budget. With no land to do hiking and camping trips with a high probability of bear attacks, the only other resort to enjoy life is to make our tastebuds happy, and go on a food adventure! it makes you feel as if you discovered the place all on your own and you get a great sense of satisfaction, because you decided to trust a food blogger’s recommendations and risk wasting your time that turned out good in the end!

OK, so i have reached my conclusion of the entire no link from paragraph to paragraph pile of an entry: i am not siding ladyironchef nor am i against him. i am a neutral party who is extremely sad that another foodblogger bites the dust. i dont really care whatever he says when he finally speaks up again in public. just please do not stop blogging ladyironchef plskthx

———

then again, after reading another food blogger’s open letter to ladyironchef, i get pissed. maybe because every tom dick harry is a graduate of some sort of qualification these days. Who cares if you “completely understand” the rise of online and social media as a marketing tool for a business? You write your letter based on an unknown source (media can never be trusted) and you expect me to believe that what you think you understand is nothing but the truth? very nice.

how amazing when most of the commentors of that entry believe his every word. hello, if a food blogger just blogs without a camera and photos on his blog, who will wanna follow? You cock or what?

look, even that stupid food blogger has closed the comments section with his comment saying “This whole issue has seriously been blown out of proportion. Comments closed.”

now, look what you’ve done, idiot.

Btw if its not true why did Ladyironchef close down his website? I’m sure the media has their reliable source and evidence if not they will risk getting sued by ladyironchef. So verdict = Ladyironchef is guilty!

Hmmm.. Personally I feel that the media likes to blow things up just to attract readers/watchers.. So whatever evidence they manage to dig out, I would say it’s best to take it with a pinch of salt ya? :)

If you’ve been to Private Affair or at least known chefs within the circle for that level, you’ll probably listen not to Brad’s side of the story. Perhaps a tad of hearing. That’s about it all. Then again, you have every single right to withhold what you want to feel/believe in this matter. To me, Brad is just one unlucky dood who happened to go up against an establishment that had decided to hit the ball back to Brad’s court. Hit him where it hurts a tad, so to speak. In this case, the internet world. The hardest hit will be having him made the news headline with a pair of cuffs.

DSLR is so affordable these days. Having a mobile utility to be online has also became the norm for many. Because of these, every unknown is trying to labelled himself/herself to be a full-time blogger. Blogger, yes. A revenue for some, yes. And oh-so-entertaining – with various reasons – at most times.

When it comes to food, I do take words from someone who was/is a chef filled with passion plus that arduous journey and daily hours one puts in. Or at least, someone who can cook and truly knows his/her food. Eg., what was put into the complex mix of sauce, the degree of cooking done to dishes, food art, cultural studies and many more. As for food critics, it is best leave to those with the above-mentioned credentials PLUS a flair for words. How else can they channel what their taste buds had gone through for the masses, right?

For me, food blogger is good enough for me to do a quick eatery search within an area I’m in, i.e, operation hours, street address, contacts. After all, there are throngs of ‘em out there. But of late, social media platforms based on geolocation with non-profitable reviewers throwing in a few liners at places they’ve visited have seen to be a much easier access for my usage. Yes, those aren’t professionals. But with more than one user telling you that outlet has a dirty loo, at least I know I’ll be there after that big let-out, innit?

Well, I’m sure Brad is not the only one in this. They are many out there, from different form of media, taking advantages of situation given. They are, humans after all. I hope restaurants/eateries, especially the service manager, will take a more stern approach to uphold its integrity in this manner. If it’s for the marketing purposes, at least use a proper channel on par to each classes the establishment is targeting.

Lastly, like I always (overly) said, “Idea is there, execution ‘salah’.” Perhaps, holding back his tantrum and paying what he has consumed with dignity, no one will hurl a swirl of malicious comments at him? I hope he’ll be back soon. If he’s being maligned, he really should contend legally for defamation. It is his revenues that were shaken. I’ve known many who has won cases over defamation online. There’s hope. But, if things happened as P.A said, a little humbleness might go a long way. Many are softies for manly apologies, no?

p.s: I only hope that Private Affairs has a darn good reason as to why they didn’t call on the police IF things happened as they’ve said. Given the scenario, as stated by P.A, it’s only natural, right?
